30 March 2014 – Wood (Duck)
Well, yesterday’s birding adventures was a bust. Tim had to work and I didn’t want to leave before he was finished because I wanted to head to the valley. Once he got home, we did make an attempt to get there…mom had some sauerkraut, home made beans and other goodies to send home to us, and we wanted to visit…damn luck! Just before we hit Windsor, we got a call from our friends to say they had found wood to buy (we ran out) and we would have to get it yesterday, because today’s weather forecast was not conducive to running around and hauling anything. Mom, we’ll get there, I promise! So, we turned around and headed back into Elmsdale to meet them and off we went. It’s good though..now we have wood to keep me warm until I get back to the scorching temps of Africa!
I wasn’t going to blog today…I woke up crying this morning for no apparent reason…not sure what I dreamt or what caused it…but there it was. I got lots of hugs from Tim and lots of encouragement to just let it out which helped. Then I went onto FB and got a few laughs from a few posts people put in and now I feel a little better. I keep telling myself that it’s only a month left over there, and that it will go quickly…the problem is that every minute feels like an hour and things can go so wrong so fast…okay, I have to stop thinking like that! It will be fine, it will be fine, it will be fine…
Mom said yesterday that you can’t take a vacation in NS in the winter…it just doesn’t work…I think I agree with that statement! So here I sit, confined to quarters again by Mother Nature…damn her!
I did manage to get a snap of a pheasant yesterday on the way out, but that was it! I was excited to hear a female Purple Finch singing her little heart out and very excited to hear our Pileated Woodpecker calling out in the morning. Things are starting to pick up in birdland!
I am still patiently awaiting the appearance of our Ruffed Grouse that has been making frequent visits to the yard…in fact, he was out front on Friday night, but Tim scared him off going out the door…we didn’t know he was there. 😦
Let’s see what this icy day brings….maybe some good pics of sparkling trees or something.
That’s it for today.

PS- The guy we bought wood from gave me permission to haunt his farm property where he gets tons of geese in the fall and has wood ducks nesting in a pond they have! Woot!
